I'm cycling 500km across Finland for Alzheimers!

ENGLISH: On Saturday 20th June I fly to Helsinki, one of the most important days in the Finnish calendar, Midsummer! This is the time of year when the sun doesn't set, so people use this weekend to enjoy the great outdoors and celebrate endless hours in the sunshine. This is when I've chosen to start my charity ride; a 7 day bikepacking trip in memory of my father-in-law Taisto, who recently passed after suffering from dementia. I head north from Helsinki, riding 500km towards the Northern town of Kaustinen, staying in a mixture of campsites, as well as wild camping near to the lakes and forests. In Finland you have 'everymans right' and are free to camp wherever you like, a welcome change from the UK. Whilst I enjoy cycling regularly at home, this is going to be a different kind of challenge. I will be in a foreign country where I don't know the language. I will be doing a substantial ride (averaging 75km) every day for 7 days. And without any home comforts, needing to carry all my camping gear and anything I need on my bike. So it will be challenging both physically and mentally. This is why I feel it's a worthy effort for some fundraising. FINNISH: Lauantaina 20. kesäkuuta lennän Helsinkiin aloittaakseni seitsemän päivän hyväntekeväisyyspyöräilyn edesmenneen appeni Taiston muistoksi. Taisto menehtyi hiljattain Alzheimerin seurauksena. Pyöräilen Helsingistä Kaustiselle, yhteensä noin 500 kilometriä. Matkan aikana yövyn sekä leirintäalueilla että teltassa luonnon keskellä. Vaikka pyöräilen säännöllisesti, tästä tulee erityinen haaste: seitsemän päivää pitkiä päivämatkoja vieraassa maassa, kaikki tarvittavat varusteet mukanani. Tämän matkan tavoitteena on kerätä varoja Alzheimerin taudin ja dementian tutkimukselle sekä Isossa-Britanniassa että Suomessa. Lahjoituksia voi tehdä alla olevien linkkien kautta.
